Abstract

At the 16th Biennial IFA conference in 2023 the initial steps for a project whose mission has indeed become: UNITING THE WORLD in CAREGIVING was shared. This began as the result of an invitation from a group of medical, mental health, social services groups and Carers responding to their mandate from a division of the government in Indonesia to answer: HOW DO WE CARE FOR THE GROWING NUMBER OF OUR AGEING POPULATION? The group in turn made contact with me through a mutual contact who knew of my work and passion for FAMILY CAREGIVING.

Together with the Indonesian Team we developed a model that is now referred to as THE SAHAJA MODEL. The core elements are replicable and flexible in nature. The keys are first of all honoring the “three legged stool of healthcare” (Care recipient; Professional Caregiver; Family Caregiver). Then the second step is to move from Silos to Synergy inviting PROFESSIONAL CAREGIVERS from the medical world, mental health arena, social services focus, and spiritual leaders to JOIN FORCES ACROSS INSITITUTIONAL LINE. NEXT and importantly, FAMILY CAREGIVERS are included in this healthcare model equation with EQUAL RESPECT, POSITION AND STATUS.

This UNION honors the greatest resource in the world: HUMAN CAPITAL. It unites all actors in the daily drama of CAREGIVING. Our focus was and continues to be:

Ø HEALTHCARE FOR ALL—many partners found they were serving the same persons
Ø EDUCATION on healthcare and the potential of career potentials
Ø FINANCE from government support paid through local insurance/governments to Carers
Ø TOURISM: revenues from retirement visas and tourism are enhanced with access to CARE
Ø LITERACY: Reading skills, financial literacy and healthcare literacy all augmented

Presently, we are in discussions with several countries and sectors including Ukraine, Nigeria, the island of Vieques and a major city in the US plus several other ASEAN destinations…UNITING THE WORLD in CAREGIVING. As the INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCES increase (under the leadership of Caregiver COALITION FAMILY of AMERICA). It is the goal to provide: Support for starting up the alliances, initial seminars to assure we are all speaking the same language, programing, best practices, online discussions and much more as we SHARE THE CAREGIVING.

This presentation will provide the progress of the SAHAJA MODEL and show WE ARE NOT ALONE…………AND TRULY, ITS TAKES US ALL; IT TAKES OUR ALL to UNITE THE WORLD in CAREGIVING
