Abstract

As populations age, a growing challenge faces families and care systems:
How can we help older adults remain safely and confidently at home—without sacrificing independence or peace of mind?

At Silver Liberty, we believe the answer lies in a new and often overlooked source of insight:
Daily activity patterns.

⸻

Why This Matters

Most older adults prefer to age in place, but until recently, families and providers had no reliable way to know:
• Whether someone is active and well
• If they’re maintaining usual routines
• Or if a fall, illness, or decline might be emerging—until it’s too late

⸻

Our Approach: Passive, Privacy-Respecting Monitoring

We use discreet, non-intrusive presence sensors placed in key zones of a home to track:
• Presence and movement
• Stillness versus activity
• Changes in daily rhythms

There are no cameras or microphones. No wearables to charge.
Just simple, continuous insight that builds a personal baseline over time.
Rich and accurate data enable deep and reliable insights and alerts

⸻

How It Supports Ageing in Place

This information allows families and care teams to:
• Know their loved one is okay—or get early alerts when something changes
• Delay or avoid costly, unwanted transitions to residential care
• Spot early signs of concern:
• Fewer kitchen visits
• Longer bathroom stays
• Disrupted sleep or overnight wandering

For the older adult, this means:
• Staying home with autonomy
• Feeling supported, not surveilled
• Postpone higher cost residential facilities

⸻

Early Results & Future Direction

Pilot deployments show:
• Accurate detection of meaningful activity shifts
• Data patterns that could serve as early warnings

We are now developing AI-powered analytics that will:
• Learn what’s normal for each individual
• Provide predictive alerts and care recommendations
• Help scale cost effective ageing-in-place strategies globally
