The Development of Self-healing Instrument for Healthy Aging

Background: Self-healing is the key for healthy aging as well as the best way to maintain good quality of life. However, lack of studies focused on the self-healing and no research focused on the development of self-healing instrument.

Objective: the purpose of the study is to develop the preliminary self-healing instrument by the Delphi method.

Method: The Delphi method was used to develop the meaning of self-healing and scale. 14 experts were invited to explore the meaning of self-healing which include physicians, nursing faculty, dietitian, physical therapist, occupational therapist psychologist, social worker, philosopher, microbiologist and statistician. A structured communication technique was conducted, which is a systematic, interactive forecasting method, through multiple panel discussions. Data was collected by qualitative approach and repeating theme and content analysis was used.

Results: The results showed the instrument include physical, mental and social environment aspects. Each aspect embrace four questions, as such, totally 12 questions will be developed with linker scale.

Conclusion: The preliminary self-healing instrument was developed and pilot testing will be employed to assess the reliability.

Discussion: During the multiple expert panel discussions, we concluded that it is highly impossible to develop operational definition for Self-healing. So we focus on self-awareness to develop the instrument. At the time when submitting the abstract, the pilot testing is not completed yet. So further reliability and validity of the instrument shall be evaluated later.
